I used to say the same thing.
“I don’t take vitamins.”
And, I used to think the same way.
“I don’t need vitamins because I eat a nutritious diet.”
“I must be getting the nutrients I need because I’m in good health.”
But, then I learned – the hard way.
Now, I’m on a mission to keep others from going down that same road of sudden poor health, a road many don’t make it off alive.
For some reason, I survived. And, I recovered. And, I have learned a lot since my “I don’t take vitamins; I get all I need from food” days.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t try to warn others of what may be ahead for them if they don’t think twice about the essential – necessary – nourishment of the building blocks of their body – their cells.
Michael Hyatt put it simply. “Zero focus on your health will lead to deterioration.”
It’s almost guaranteed.
“I eat nutritious food.”
Food today simply isn’t as nutritious as it was 50 years ago. The nutrients contained in fruits and vegetables today are a fraction of what they were in the past.
The soil is depleted of nutrients. Soil should be properly amended every season and/or between plantings. Fruits and veggies extract nutrients from the soil as they grow to maturity. If the used soil is not re-nourished with organic substances, the next crop will have fewer nutrients to absorb.
When the practice of planting without proper amending goes on for years – decades – soil becomes depleted of the very vitamins and minerals our cells need and that we expect are in the fruits and vegetables we buy.
Do you know whether or not the produce you’re eating was grown in amended soil?
Do you know the nutrient content of each zucchini, strawberry, or red bell pepper you eat?
Well, then, how do you know whether or not your cells are getting the nourishment they need?
“But I eat only organic foods from my own garden or the Farmer’s Market.”
I eat organic food from my own garden and the Farmer’s Market, too. Buying organic, locally-grown foods seems to be the best choice when it’s available. Still, what does organic mean? Grown without pesticides or herbicides.
But that still doesn’t address the lack of nutrients. Oh, those local farms properly amend the soil? Awesome! But, if you live in the Midwest, as I do, what do you eat during the winter months? Surely you don’t stop eating produce from October through April, right? Do you freeze everything? Or, break down and buy foods shipped in from warmer climates? Maybe you are fortunate and have a conservatory in your back yard where you can grow all the organic foods you need throughout the year.
But, even if that was the case, there’s still a problem.
All plants need water, right? What water are you or your farmers using to hydrate those seedlings?
So, while you’re eating and thinking how awesome it is to nourish your body with yummy, all-natural, non-GMO foods, are you also unknowingly allowing toxins through your personal garden gate?
I don’t mean to be Debbie Downer here but the reality is, it’s just about impossible to get all the nutrients our body needs through foods alone.
